About me
I am a self-taught interdisciplinary artist based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Wellington, New Zealand, working primarily in painting and sculpture. My work sits within the realm of magical realism, blending detailed observation with an underlying sense of the surreal.
Growing up on a North Canterbury farm, a free-range childhood instilled in me a deep appreciation for the natural world—something that continues to shape my practice today. With over 20 years of experience in graphic design, I bring a strong sense of composition and meticulous attention to detail to my paintings. I work exclusively in oils, drawn to their smoothness, flexibility, and the way they allow me to capture light, texture, and form with depth and nuance.
In addition to painting, sculpture has become an increasingly important part of my practice. Using natural and found materials, I create works that explore themes of memory and connection—bringing attention to what lingers and what fades. Both disciplines inform and enrich one another, allowing me to bring a tactile, dimensional quality to my work.
At its core, my art is an act of deep noticing—a way to honor the beauty in the overlooked and reimagine humanity’s relationship with the natural world.
